Jesus is Still King
One of the most important things we need to consistently remind ourselves of is the fact that Jesus is still king.
This is true when we face difficult circumstances. When life is tough, it is common to have doubts about God’s love for us. Doubts begin to surface. We begin to wonder where God is during our pain.
It is easy to become self-focused when we experience hardship. For instance, if you accidently slam your car door on your hand you will probably find it difficult to focus on anything other than the pain you are experiencing in that moment.
In the middle of our pain, we need to be reminded of the fact that Jesus is still king. He is still sovereign over everything. And he still cares for you. This is the picture we see in Acts 7:54-60. When Stephen was about to become the first Christian martyr, he focused on the fact that God is still on the throne and Jesus is still king. He could face death with confidence because he knew that he had Jesus the king by his side. And this should give us confidence too.
But perhaps we need to be reminded of the fact that Jesus is still king even more so when life is going well. It is also easy to become self-focused when we are out playing golf or on vacation in Hawaii. When life is good, it is easy for our relationship with God to lose priority.
This is why it is important to read passages like Revelation 4 and 5 where we see how glorious our God truly is. Jesus is both the king and the lamb who was slain on our behalf so we could enter his kingdom. Compared to Christ, our accomplishments seem very small.
When do you have the most difficult time relying on Jesus? When life is difficult, or when everything is going well? How do you keep your relationship with Jesus a priority in your life?
Jesus is still king, no matter what circumstances we are living through right now. May he never lose priority in our lives.
